MUSPI' EKLA
Bone Bottom
The great lake that lies to the West of the Sun Peaks was once the pride of the once great Muspilarian Empire. The waters teemed with fishers, sailors, and a great host of aquatic life. It is said that in the depths of the water, there existed a great utopia of sorts: leagues below the turmoil of the surface world. But that was long ago, and like Muspilar, the foam of Muspi' Ekla has been tainted with decay. Bone Bottom, its new name, is more apt than its old moniker. Ships that once sailed freely across the waves from Glisterhelm to Muspi' Morel and beyond lie at the floor of the lake. No one is sure why, over the course of less than a decade, Bone Bottom swallowed those thousands of lives. Some say an archdevil cursed the water and those who lived on it. Others believe an abyssal entity used it as a hunting ground for pleasure. What is true now is that no one dares to bring ships beyond a mile from the shoreline, making fishing possible but limited in almost all of Xerdani.
The collapse of Muspilar and the tainting of the water did have an unexpected benefit: solidifying Xerdani's defensive position. The only way to attack the capital of Glisterhelm is from the North. With the collapse of Bone Bottom, the Gleaming Realm began expansion of the King's Trail past Skrillbend and hopefully further than it is now. Is the goal to find an alternate trade route that circumvents Bone Bottom? Is it to circumvent the ruins of Muspi' Morel altogether? Only time will tell.
