THE ELEMENTAL PLANES
Water, Earth, Wind, & Fire
The Elemental Planes of Existence are interwoven with the Material Plane. Some mages claim that Xerdani rests atop a massive rift between the world and the Elemental Plane of Earth. While plausible, those who initially made this claim have provided no definitive proof. What is proven is that each Elemental Plane of Existence is woven into the very fabric of the Material Plane. The interconnectivity of the Elemental Planes cause certain phenomenon to occur based off of specific conditions. While the conditions and effects vary within randomized patterns, there are some instances that are more likely to create a rift between the planes. Rifts leading to the Elemental Plane of Fire can be found in areas of intense heat or drought. While these areas established in the world, such as the Dark Sands to the South, are incredibly far away from Xerdani, it is not impossible to find time pockets where a rift could occur eslewhere. Sunrise and Sunset are very optimal times for creatures from the Elemental Plane of Fire to pass through the veil into Anakainosis. Rifts leading to the Elemental Plane of Water exist, you guessed it, in places with an abundance of water. Bone Bottom, the Gjollspring, the Skrill, and the Sundered Seas to the West are all contenders for where a rift might open. But stormy areas, such as the skies around Tresem's Keep or some other areas may also be prime real estate for a watery creature to pass through the veil. The Elemental Plane of Air is an especially dangerous Plane of Existence as it is more playful than the others. Rifts for this Plane are found near mountain tops, in the middle of the sky, and other various heights. However, anywhere air exists is a cause for concern. In fact, the more pressurized the air, such as in a Dungeon Cavern or an experimental container, the higher the risk is for a rift to occur. Especially windy or clear days, where you can almost feel the air touching your skin, are also prime candidates for rifts in the veil. As stated above, there is a very popular theory that a rift to the Elemental Plane of Earth exists below the Kingdom of Xerdani. While this seems to be farcical, rifts to the Elemental Plane of Earth are maybe the most common Elemental rifts to exist in this section of Anakainosis. Part of this is due to magical effects that are left over from great battles of Ages past that warped the earth and stone into weapons of mass destruction. Another part is dungeons are pretty commonly found underground! Don't get lazy, though. Rifts can exist above ground as well: great mountainous boulders, granite pools, sandstorms... if there's solid ground, there's a chance a rift is nearby.
